CSC is considering establishing one or more positions to increase its
technical and analytical depth in the area of climate analysis, risk
assessment, and software application development. CSC has 95,000
employees working in nineteen countries world-wide providing a wide
range information technology solutions including within environmental
and climate science. CSC clients include high performance computing
centers operated by NOAA and NASA, the UK Met Office, and other key
centers for climate modeling, research, and service. CSC also
performs application development through contracts and grants from
several Federal agencies, and has extensive relationships with many of
the world’s largest financial service providers.
CSC is interested in establishing dialogue with individuals with
strong expertise in climate science or a related natural science, as
part of a broader effort to scope the nature of future positions.
Experience in applying output from global climate models to research,
developing applications aimed at understanding climate change or
utilizing that knowledge to address challenges in other related
subjects (e.g., ecology, hydrology), as well as a strong understanding
of the data and information needs of these communities, is essential.
Experience in the development and application of models of highly
complex natural systems and their interaction with climate is highly
desirable. Familiarity with mathematics, numerical analysis, data
analysis, computational methods or computer science, or work with
extremely large data sets (e.g., larger than 100 terabytes), while
desirable, is not required.
Individuals interested in exchanging views regarding the potential for
leveraging global and regional climate modeling and earth observing
efforts to provide decision support in the public and private sectors,
should contact Dan Walker, CSC’s Chief Climate Scientist, at
Dan will be attending AGU and would welcome opportunities to
discuss these exciting opportunities first hand.
