Tenure Track University of Massachusetts Lowell

Tenure-Track Faculty Opening in Atmospheric Science
University of Massachusetts Lowell
Department of Environmental, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences

The Department of Environmental, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences at the
University of Massachusetts Lowell invites applications for a tenured or
tenure-track faculty position in mesoscale or dynamical meteorology.
Applicants must have a strong general background in the prescribed area
and have an interest in teaching courses in forecasting and synoptic
techniques at the undergraduate and graduate level. The candidate will
be expected to develop a successful, externally-funded research program;
will contribute to the expansion of our masters program; and will help
to develop a doctoral program in global change. Currently, departmental
expertise spans boundary layer meteorology, climate variability and
change, radiative transfer, upper-atmosphere physics and environmental
geoscience. The department offers a B.S. degree, an M.S. degree, as well
as joint doctoral degrees in association with the Physics and Chemistry
departments at Lowell, and through the University of Massachusetts
intercampus School of Marine Sciences.

The importance of maintaining a strong, well funded, research program
along with the mentoring of graduate students is strongly emphasized.
The teaching workload, according to University and College policy, will
be calibrated to research productivity as befitting a research
university. Outstanding applicants with previous research and teaching
experience are encouraged to apply and will be offered a rank
commensurate with experience. Appointment is anticipated to be at the
Associate level for a senior person but all levels, including that of
Assistant Professor for promising young investigators, will be
considered. The starting date is anticipated to be Fall semester 2011.
